3 Must-Have Apps for Small Businesses

Apps, apps, and more apps...

These days, they’re everywhere and I write a lot about them! Why do I love them so much? Well, if there’s something out there to make my life easier and free up more time, I’m on it! Helping things run smoothly is exactly what they should be used for—whether you’re a Solopreneur or you’re working with a team around the world.

When I run into a problem, either in my own business or a clients’, I pinpoint the key issues at hand, then I dig into my toolbox to see which apps out there will fit with what we’re trying to achieve.

Sure, it takes time to learn a new app and introduce it to your team. It also takes some time to integrate it into your system and workflows, but the time, money, and frustration you’ll save from working with something that just doesn’t work is worth it. A few hours a week is all you’ll need to completely turn an unproductive process around.

Here are three apps that have made a huge impact on my business:

    1. QuickBooks Online: Before you do anything, get an accounting software in place. My go-to is QuickBooks Online for so many reasons—it’s a powerhouse of a software, affordable, easy to use, and amazing for collaboration. Having an accounting system set up right off the bat will set you up for success. You’ll learn to manage the lifeblood of your business, your finances, from the very beginning and that is just so incredibly important.
    2. GSuite: To be honest, it took me a few years to jump on the GSuite bandwagon. But when I did… I never looked back! Not only are you getting a custom email, extra storage, better control and customization, and all the Google apps, but you also get incredible support from the Google team. It’s a win-win for me!
    3. Slack: Oh Slack, where would we be without you? This team messaging app gets everyone out of email and into a single organized workspace. I use Slack to communicate with my team members and archive important information. It integrates beautifully with many of the essential tools that I use daily. Don't worry if it takes a little time to learn or set up—it's so worth it, promise!

I know there are tons of apps out there to choose from and you can spend hundreds of hours a year just trying them out… and then deciding they aren’t the right fit.

So, how can we avoid that? First, know the details within the goal you want to achieve. Then, start your search and scrutinize the top apps you've chosen.

What’s the #1 thing I check out when vetting a new app?

Support.

If someone’s around to assist with onboarding or answer questions in a reasonable amount of time, I consider it a very good start!

Working virtually, I rely on apps to not only connect the different systems I use but also to keep in touch with my wonderful team that helps to make it all happen. Embracing cloud technology has been an eye-opening experience. It’s amazing and thrilling to be able to work from anywhere, anytime, and with anyone.
